About the CompanyInstacart is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer II to join the Logistics AI group and help develop the intelligence and execution systems behind its fulfillment marketplace.About the RoleIn this role, you will collaborate with senior engineers, product leaders, product managers, data scientists, backend engineers, and other stakeholders to develop machine learning solutions for complex marketplace challenges. You will apply machine learning to areas such as routing optimization, pricing, dispatch, and mapping, contributing across the full development lifecycle from concept and prototyping through experimentation and implementation. The role is suited to a strong programmer and analytical problem-solver who enjoys applying ML and AI to practical problems involving large-scale, dynamic data.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions for practical marketplace challenges.Apply machine learning to areas including routing optimization, pricing, dispatch, and mapping.Collaborate with senior engineers and product leaders to develop and enhance marketplace systems.Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and backend engineers to understand business needs and develop impactful ML and AI applications.Contribute throughout the solution lifecycle, from initial concepts and prototyping to experimentation and final implementation.Engage with diverse stakeholders to ensure ML solutions are well integrated and aligned with business goals.Continually refine and advance algorithms and machine learning models to improve operational efficiency.Address complex logistics and marketplace problems involving matching, pricing, geospatial applications, and high-throughput systems with dynamic data.QualificationsGraduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or equivalent self-study and experience.Required SkillsStrong programming skills in Python.Fluency in data manipulation using SQL and Pandas.Experience with machine learning tools and frameworks including scikit-learn, XGBoost, and Keras/TensorFlow.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders across all levels.Preferred Skills1–2 years of industry experience applying machine learning to real-world problems using large datasets.Knowledge of deep learning frameworks and methodologies.Experience applying machine learning and optimization techniques to marketplace problems.Pay range and compensation packageInstacart provides market-competitive compensation and benefits based on the employee's work location.
