Senior Manager, Accounting

We are constantly searching for high-impact individuals in various clinical, technical and business operations domains to strengthen our team of patient-centric, intelligent individuals.Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Sr. Manager, Accounting will play a key role in our accounting team, with a strong emphasis on SOX 404(b) compliance and equity (stock-based compensation) accounting. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls, as well as overseeing the accounting and reporting for equity transactions in a fast-paced, public company environment.ResponsibilitiesOversee accounting for stock-based compensation, including stock options, RSUs, PSUs, and ESPPEnsure accurate and timely recognition of equity compensation expense in accordance with ASC 718Manage equity-related reports and data from ShareworksReview and validate fair value assumptions (e.g., Black-Scholes inputs, peer companies)Coordinate with Legal, HR, and external valuation specialists on equity grants and modificationsSupport preparation of equity disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, proxy)Help lead the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of internal controls in compliance with SOX 404(b)Partner with internal and external auditors to support control walkthroughs, testing, and remediation effortsEvaluate control deficiencies and drive timely remediation plansMaintain and update process flowcharts, risk control matrices (RCMs), and control documentationEnsure readiness for external auditor attestation under SOX 404(b)Collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen control environment and ensure adherence to company policiesSupport month-end and quarter-end close processes related to equity and other assigned areasSupport commercial-related initiatives that intersect with equity compensation and SOX controls, including evaluation of control impacts from new or evolving processesPerform other accounting, compliance, and internal control-related responsibilities as needed to support the company's financial reporting and growth objectivesQualificationsBachelor's degree required, degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, CPA License preferredMinimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience required, life science industry preferredPrevious experience with Shareworks and NetSuite preferredPrevious experience with equity administration and technical accounting requiredPrevious experience with accounting in a publicly traded company requiredExperience supporting accounting or SOX considerations related to commercial operations, business process changes, or company scale-up initiatives preferredDeep, hands-on knowledge of SOX 404(b) requirements and internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO)Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to present numeric data effectivelyProven experience working with external auditors in a SOX-compliant environmentDemonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information with sound judgment and discretionIntermediate-to-advanced MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Please note that you must come into the San Diego, CA office once a weekThe starting base pay range for this position is $145,940.00 - $171,503.00. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee's geographic location.Employees in this role may be entitled to additional compensation, including bonus and equity.
