Wind Tunnel Data Systems Engineer

AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a Wind Tunnel Data Systems Engineer to join the Maintenance Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. The Data Systems Engineer is part of a team that supports wind tunnel facilities and will provide data support for data quality. The qualified candidate will provide operational and data support for test engineers and for customers at the wind tunnel facility. Responsibilities Support cutting edge research projects in large scale test facilities. Coordinate and communicate with internal and external customers as part of a research support team, to determine/capture test specific data acquisition requirements. Ensure Data Acquisition System (DAS) availability and communicate system status with the test team. Support configuration of test specific measurement instrumentation and operation of the DAS following existing work instructions. Perform test specific data processing on acquired data. Ensure timely delivery of validated data to the customer. Develop an understanding of the DAS and data reduction software to make recommendations for software enhancements to improve reliability and performance and increase functionality. Monitor backups of all DAS associated systems on a regular basis as directed. Work schedule is generally Monday through Friday during days but will vary depending on test scheduling and will include 2nd shift work should customer testing require it. Qualifications BS degree in appropriate discipline from ABET college or university and three (3) to five (5) years related engineering experience, or MS degree and two (2) to three (3) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. Preferred candidate will have experience with wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems Familiarity with engineering software tools such as LabVIEW and MATLAB is preferred A strong mathematics, mechanical or electrical background will be considered favorably Experience with aeronautics, rotorcraft dynamics, and/or vibration analysis is also desired. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products is required. Required Qualifications Current U.S. Driver’s License (Real ID required). Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. (35%). Travel between facilities and test sites is required. Travel between various facilities/test operations is required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (15%). Physical Requirements Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. (15%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (10%).
