WAVA Special Education TeacherWashington Virtual Academies (WAVA), an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) program of Omak School District, is seeking motivated and energetic WA State certified teachers to work in our innovative on-line educational environment. WAVA’s mission is to empower every student for success in learning, work and life. WAVA’s core belief is that ALL students are capable of success – no exceptions. WAVA teachers work primarily from their homes and must reside in WA State.As part of their regular teaching responsibilities, WAVA Special Education teachers will:Have a working knowledge of the K12 curriculum and Online School as it relates to their grade level and/or grade level span and subject level assignmentBe knowledgeable about Common Core State StandardsSupport parents with student placement, online school set up, curriculum and instructional issuesAssign and evaluate student work per school policiesParticipate in the School Improvement PlanDevelop effective instructional tools, lessons, and strategies to deliver, supplement, and enhance provided curriculumProvide synchronous direct instruction through instructional technologyProvide direct instruction as aligned to individual student IEP goalsDesign, monitor and evaluate student progress as related to the IEPIncorporate evidenced based practices as related to online environmentsProvide technology-based instructional supportsDevelop and implement student IEPsProvide pre-evaluation and evaluation materials to determine eligibility for Special EducationInitiate, monitor, and document required home-school communicationsConduct monthly progress conferences to assess each student’s learning, progress, learning style, and any other relevant academic, social, or developmental issuesRespond within 24 hours to parent inquiries during regular work weekParticipate in weekly teacher conferences/meetings with the Special Programs AdministratorAttend regularly scheduled face-to-face professional development days 6-8 times per year, and weekly online staff meetingsWork collaboratively with other teachers to develop and deliver appropriate instruction to best meet individual student needsProfessionally and effectively communicate in writing to students, families and staffReport student progress towards IEP goalsCommunicate with colleagues and families about individual student needsDevelop student IEPs in online system (IEP Online)Develop and maintain appropriate documentation (in various online platforms)Alert leadership team of any concerns about student progress and attendanceProvide consistent documentation regarding progress monitoring of all student IEP goalsComplete semester and end of year report cardsComplete IEP progress reports as directed by IEPOrganize orientation, training, social, and educational activities for students and families.Support students in school activities such as open houses, expos, information session, state assessments and orientations.Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)Act as a school resource for best practices in interventionLead, schedule and organize IEP meetings in accordance with due datesWork with the administration to prepare students for state assessmentsServe as proctors for site-based proctored examsProvide up to date accommodations/modifications for state testing sitesAdminister state and school-wide assessmentsAssess students per WAVA policyRequirementsValid WA State Teaching Certificate in Special EducationShared view of the virtual academy’s missionStrong content and subject-matter knowledgeAn ability to support and guide adults as well as studentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsOrganization and time-management skillsProficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, and experience using them in a professional capacity For information on salary and benefits offered, please visit: https://www.omaksd.org/departments/human-resource/benefits The following policies have been adopted and are reflected in our employment practices:Omak Statement of Non-discrimination The Omak School District #19 complies with all federal rules and regulations and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
