The Shift Lead at Miss J's Cafe is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations during their shift, ensuring all tasks are completed effectively and efficiently. The Shift Lead will oversee staff, maintain high standards of customer service, ensure food quality, manage workflow, and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. This role requires leadership and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced cafe environment.Key Responsibilities: Qualifications:Physical Requirements:Staff Supervision & Leadership:Lead and supervise the team during your shift, ensuring each staff member is performing their duties efficientlyTrain and mentor staff members on cafe operations, customer service, and cafe standardsProvide guidance and support to employees, fostering a positive and motivated work environmentEnsure proper delegation of tasks, making sure all areas are staffed appropriately (front-of-house and kitchen)Act as a role model for the team in terms of customer service and professionalismCustomer Service:Ensure that all customers receive excellent service, assisting with orders, answering questions, and resolving complaints or issues in a timely and professional mannerHandle customer interactions, ensuring that guests have a pleasant and welcoming experienceEnsure that food and beverages are served promptly and meet Miss J's Cafe's quality standardsOperational Efficiency:Oversee cafe operations during the shift, including managing the pace of service and ensuring smooth workflow between kitchen and front-of-house staffMonitor food preparation and ensure food quality standards are consistently metMaintain cleanliness and organization of the cafe, including dining areas, restrooms, and kitchenAssist with opening and closing duties, ensuring the cafe is properly stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next shiftMaintain inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as neededHealth & Safety Compliance:Ensure all food safety and sanitation protocols are followed, including food handling, preparation, and cleaning standardsEnsure employees follow all health, safety, and cleanliness regulationsPerform regular checks on equipment and ensure it is maintained and cleaned according to scheduleCash Handling & Financial Management:Oversee cash handling during the shift, including managing the register and completing accurate cash-outsEnsure that all transactions are processed correctly and customer payments are handled securelyAssist in managing sales and labor costs, helping to meet the cafe's financial goalsTeam Communication & Reporting:Provide clear and concise communication with the General Manager or Assistant General Manager regarding shift performance, issues, or staffing needsComplete shift reports, including any operational issues, staffing concerns, and sales dataEnsure that any outstanding tasks or issues are handed off clearly to the next shiftPrevious experience in the food service industry, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory roleStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to motivate and manage a team in a fast-paced environmentExcellent customer service skills and the ability to handle customer complaints or issues calmly and professionallyBasic knowledge of food safety standards and health regulationsAbility to multitask and stay organized under pressureComfortable handling cash and working with point-of-sale systemsAbility to stand for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 25 poundsCapable of working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
