Policy Technical Writer 11 week contract w/ option to extendHybrid - Austin, TXOverviewWe are seeking a Policy Technical Writer to support identifying documentation gaps, building structured and scalable knowledge systems, and partnering across teams to improve operational maturity.This individual will play a key role in audit readiness, policy development, and process standardization, helping translate day-to-day operations into clear documentation, workflows, and governance practices. This is an 11 week contract to start, so this could be a great fit for someone looking for a short term project, but there is opportunity to extend into the new fiscal year if funding gets approved.ResponsibilitiesAssess current-state documentation, identify gaps, and build out comprehensive documentation across IT, operations, and business workflowsSupport audit readiness efforts by organizing, maintaining, and updating documentation for internal and external audits (e.g., policies, procedures, asset management)Partner with cross-functional teams (IT, security, networking, helpdesk) to gather requirements and document processesConduct stakeholder interviews to understand workflows and translate them into clear SOPs, process maps, and policiesDevelop and maintain documentation within tools such as SharePoint, Scribe, or other documentation platformsHelp define and standardize helpdesk policies, access/permissions processes, and internal operational proceduresAssist with asset management documentation and lifecycle trackingCollaborate with networking teams on documenting updates related to firewalls, Cisco infrastructure, and system changes (non-hands-on)Build and improve workflows, prioritization frameworks, and documentation governance practicesSupport emerging initiatives such as AI policy development and documentation for responsible usage and data retentionEnsure documentation remains current and consistent with bi-annual audit requirements and organizational changesQualifications3+ years of experience in process documentation, compliance support, IT operations, or a related roleExperience supporting audit readiness efforts and working within structured compliance environments (SOC 2, ISO, NIST, or similar preferred)Strong documentation skills, including creating SOPs, workflows, process maps, and policiesProven ability to interview stakeholders and translate business processes into clear, structured documentationExperience working with documentation and collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Scribe, or similar platforms)Familiarity with IT operations concepts such as access/permissions management, helpdesk processes, and asset trackingExposure to cross-functional environments, working with IT, security, and networking teamsStrong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneouslyComfortable operating in ambiguous environments and driving timelines independentlyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsNice to Have:Exposure to AI governance or policy developmentUnderstanding of identity and access management (IAM) conceptsExperience with DocTract, and Scribe
