In 2021, the Veolia group supplied 79 million people with drinking water and 61 million people with wastewater service, produced nearly 48 million megawatt hours of energy and treated 48 million metric tons of waste.Job DescriptionJob SummaryThis position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at a facility in Hemlock, MIKey CharacteristicsStrong mechanical aptitudeWillingness to learn and ability to take instructions on Wastewater treatment processesAbility and desire to build and maintain a "team mentality"Strong communication skills, both verbally and writtenIndependent decision-making and judgment for commonly encountered problemsAbility to develop creative and innovative ideas to improve processesDuties & ResponsibilitiesMaintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow; collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impuritiesAnalyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance; maintain accurate record keeping of client dataCoordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methodsComplete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies and assist with minor maintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installationCompile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facility management; may compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodiesCoordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies and with Facility to schedule third-party maintenance supportOther Duties as assignedQualificationsKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalentStrong communication skills, both verbally and writtenAbility to make process changes based on lab data and general process knowledgeAbility to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver in tight spacesAbility to work both day and night shifts as neededEducation & Experience Required:High school diploma or equivalent required.Preferred:Wastewater entry level licensing or certificationWorking ConditionsTypical working conditions include a wastewater treatment plant and outdoorsExposure to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)Potential exposure to burns, chemicals, dangerous systems, dirt and dust, electrical hazards, grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam and high levels of moisture, and other hazardous conditionsPhysical requirements: lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, stand for long periods of time, walk on uneven surfaces, regular bending, climb onto and exit a forklift in a safe manner, use of extension ladders on a daily basis, ability to climb into and maneuver body in tight spacesAbility to work both day and night shifts as needed, with primary shift designation being 12-hour night shiftsAdditional InformationWhy Veolia?
