Grocery Department Specialist

Department SpecialistThe Department Specialist performs a wide range of specialized administrative and operational duties that support departmental functions. This role focuses on tasks unique to the department and requires specialized knowledge and skills beyond general office support.Key Accountabilities:Support total store customer service initiatives for the division.Maintain and manage complex records, files, and departmental documentation.Respond to internal and external inquiries requiring specialized functional knowledge.Collect, compile, analyze, and prepare data for departmental reports, projects, and special assignments.Create, update, balance, and verify accuracy of reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and data comparisons.Review information and make determinations within established guidelines, parameters, and instructions.Examine, prioritize, and process documents to determine appropriate actions or completion order.Perform routine one- and two-step mathematical calculations, including percentage calculations.Complete detailed keyboarding assignments, including correspondence, mailings, and specialized forms.Answer departmental phone calls as needed and route inquiries appropriately.Sort, file, and maintain invoices, receipts, contracts, and other confidential or specialized documents.Maintain ledgers, financial records, service logs, and other departmental records.Research and interpret data from multiple sources to support departmental decision-making.Coordinate and support special programs, events, and approved departmental initiatives.Implement approved policy and procedure changes affecting the department.Monitor daily workflow of lower-level specialists and adjust work assignments to ensure timely and accurate completion.Train new employees, provide ongoing guidance, and act as a resource to department staff.Provide input to management on employee performance evaluations and may participate in interview and selection processes.Serve as a liaison between the department and other units as needed.Scope Data:Sales resultsGross dollar contributionKnowledge, Skills, and Experience:Skills and Abilities:Strong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent keyboarding and computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheetsSolid mathematical ability, including basic and intermediate calculationsStrong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skillsAbility to lead, direct, and organize workgroup staff effectivelyEducation Level: As required per company standardsExperience Level: As required per company standardsTravel Requirements:Minimal to none (as applicable to department needs)Physical Environment:Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.Extended periods of sitting at a desk or computer terminal may be required.Frequent use of office equipment such as computers, keyboards, calculators, and telephones.Occasional stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be necessary to complete job duties.Disclaimer:This description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this job classification.
