Aerospace Mechanical Engineering Manager
Job Description
:This is a dual role manager and engineer position. It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain the company's FOS product lines during new product design, development, and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team. This individual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications. In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.Essential Functions:Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designersSupport hiring, workforce planning, and performance managementFoster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement cultureProvide inputs (material and labor estimates, technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)Define, maintain, and improve the department's development processes and best practicesServe as lead mechanical engineer, responsible for design integrity and product performance and complianceDrive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product supportDevelop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specificationsApply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performancePerform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, etc.)Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviewsEnsure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standardsSupport production by troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and improving processesPartner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actionsMust be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance which requires you to be a U.S. CitizenQualifications:Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.Professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX etcProfessional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100Professional experience with dimensional stack-up/tolerance analysisPreferred Additional Skills:Strong fundamentals in mechanics, vibration, fatigue, and thermal conceptsExperience with DFMA and manufacturing processesFamiliarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and working in a regulated environmentExperience with FEA tools and test validation methodsAdvanced degree (MS) in Mechanical or Aerospace EngineeringAn active DOW Secret Security ClearanceYou should be proficient in:GD&TBachelor's DegreeMechanical Troubleshooting SkillsAS9100Design for Manufacturability (DFM)Mechanical Design & EngineeringMechanical TestingMechanical Systems & Component RepairMachines & technologies you'll use:CAD Software (Solidworks, Solid Edge)
