Our business is multi-faceted - from bar operations, to private parties and entertainment, to an art gallery - there are a lot of moving pieces and prioritization, organization, and followthrough are a must. In addition, the space is home to six restaurant vendors, a podcast studio, and a retails space - so the ability to deal with multiple personalities will be useful. You won’t be responsible for a kitchen, but will help coordinate and manage our tenants.We are looking to onboard a trusted entrepreneurial partner who can appropriately communicate with ownership to advise on business progress, challenges, financials, and new initiatives. Our GM must be a strong leader who can both drive the business and further instill DSC as a cornerstone of the community.Key Responsibilities Include:People & ProcessManage relationships, help shape culture, provide a positive environment where employees are empowered and rewarded to take responsibility, provide mentorship for assistant managers and other employees.Help refine and implement SOPEvaluate all current staff, train and uplevel attention to detail and hospitalityHire and train new staff as needed, maintain a level of diversity that reflects the city of DetroitEnsure proper staffing levels, refine approach to schedulingOperationsHave finger on the pulse of the operation and eyes on all aspects of operationsEnsure proper upkeep and maintenance of facility by ensuring attention to detailGuide direction of beverage programActivate new and repeat initiatives across the organization Advise and drive marketing initiatives, ensuring the DSC brand is represented in our communications and programmingAdvise and work with ownership on capital improvementsEvents, Sales & ProgrammingOversee and continue to grow private event bookingsFacilitate execution of events by ensuring proper communication and handoff between sales and operationsGuide sales staff in goal-setting, sourcing new business, capitalizing on opportunities, working with CRM system, and continuing to foster a reputation for outstanding customer serviceFinancials Have a strong grasp of financials, drive efficient profit margins in all P&L areas, look for efficiencies and areas of focus for profitabilityReporting to ownership and shareholdersGoal setting, projections and planningRequirements3+ years of GM experience 1+ years management or proprietor experience in non-chain establishmentExperience in high volume venue, featuring events, entertainment and private parties Hands-on, high energy, ability to be on site nights and weekendsCollege Degree is preferred.About DSCDetroit Shipping Company is a restaurant collective and beer garden located in Cass Park, Detroit. Conceived and created by two old friends, the space is built from repurposed shipping containers and houses three bars, six restaurants, a podcast studio, a t-shirt shop, a stage and an art gallery. While the idea of a restaurant collective isn’t new, this type of space is a reinvention of that. The restaurants featured within each offer a unique take on a classic cuisine. We aim to build community through a diverse offering of shared experiences in food, art and music.
