The person in this role will serve as an executive leadership touchpoint across departments that significantly impact mental health care for RCHO patients, including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, population health and primary care. To this end, the Vice President for Mental Health will function as the leader of an enterprise-wide Mental Health Institute, which will include governing representation from multiple departments and divisions as well as representation from UCI Health. Finally, this position will involve administrative oversight of the Department of Psychology at RCHO. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of pediatric mental health services at one of the nation’s premier children’s hospitals. As the strategic lead for all aspects of mental health care across the enterprise, the Vice President of Mental Health Operations will be responsible for setting a unifying vision and driving systemwide alignment of services to meet the evolving needs of children, youth, and families. This role will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that integrates prevention, early intervention, acute care, and ongoing treatment into a coordinated continuum of care, ensuring mental health is embedded as a core element of pediatric health. The Vice President will provide executive leadership for program growth, innovation, and quality improvement, positioning RCHO as a regional and national leader in pediatric mental health. Key responsibilities include shaping policy and partnerships with county, state, and community stakeholders; advancing workforce development to address critical shortages; leveraging data and population health strategies to optimize outcomes; and aligning clinical, academic, and research initiatives to ensure excellence in care delivery. Working collaboratively with senior leaders, physicians, and frontline teams, the Vice President will drive cultural and organizational change to prioritize mental health as essential to overall health, ensuring that all children, youth, and families served by RCHO have access to high-quality, compassionate, and equitable care. To enable and accelerate this work, the Vice President of Mental Health Operations will establish and provide executive coordination and oversight of the RCHO Mental Health Institute, a jointly governed initiative that integrates psychology, psychiatry, nursing, population health, and other disciplines. This institute will serve as the organizational hub for strategy, program development, research, and innovation in pediatric mental health across the RCHO enterprise. The Vice President of Mental Health Operations will play a critical role in aligning diverse clinical and academic teams, advancing strategic initiatives, and ensuring that RCHO remains a national leader in addressing the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and their families. The Vice President will serve as the administrative leader for the Department of Psychology, with full responsibility for budget and revenue cycle management, human resources, clinical operations, and accreditation compliance. The successful candidate will need to be a strong operational leader who can balance fiscal stewardship with the highest standards of quality, safety, and patient- and family-centered care. In this capacity, the Vice President of Mental Health Operations will work in dyadic partnership with the Chief of Psychology, sharing responsibility for strategic planning, program development, and clinical decision-making. While the Vice President of Mental Health Operations provides administrative leadership, the Chief of Psychology will maintain primary authority over the Department’s extensive training and internship programs, ensuring continued excellence in education and workforce development. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership experience in healthcare administration, deep understanding of behavioral health systems, and the ability to foster collaboration across disciplines. They must demonstrate a vision for building a seamless behavioral health continuum of care and the operational acumen to bring that vision into reality, ensuring children, youth, and families experience integrated, coordinated, and accessible services across the care journey.
