Manager, Engineering - Systems (United States)The Manager, Engineering - Systems (United States) is a regional leadership role responsible for managing a team of up to 20 systems engineers in the United States. This role provides day-to-day management, technical guidance, and career development for engineers working on embedded Linux systems, kernel development, user space applications, and related infrastructure. The US team focuses on technical architecture, product strategy, customer engagement, and cross-team coordination.In your daily job you will:Team ManagementManage a team of up to 40 engineers including Managers, MTS, SMTS, and Senior EngineersConduct regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and career development discussionsFacilitate team meetings, sprint planning, and retrospectivesResolve conflicts and maintain team cohesionEnsure team members have necessary resources and supportProvide mentorship to junior managers and technical leadsTechnical LeadershipProvide technical guidance and mentorship to team membersReview code, architecture decisions, and technical designsEnsure adherence to coding standards and best practicesParticipate in technical discussions and problem-solvingStay current with industry trends and technologiesLead technical architecture and strategic planning initiativesHiring & DevelopmentParticipate in recruiting and hiring processesOnboard new team members and ensure smooth integrationDevelop individual development plans for team membersIdentify training needs and opportunitiesSupport career growth and advancementMentor senior engineers and technical leadsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field10+ years of engineering experience5+ years of engineering management experience including senior leadership rolesExperience managing teams of 30+ engineersBackground in embedded systems, Linux, or systems softwareStrong understanding of embedded Linux systemsExperience with Linux kernel development or user space applicationsKnowledge of software development lifecycle and agile methodologiesFamiliarity with build systems, CI/CD, and development toolsUnderstanding of code review processes and quality assuranceExperience with technical architecture and strategic planningManagement SkillsProven ability to lead and develop engineering teamsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsExperience with performance management and career developmentAbility to balance technical and business prioritiesProject management and resource allocation experienceStrong customer engagement and stakeholder management skillsExperience mentoring senior engineers and technical leadsStrong public speaking and presentation abilitiesPreferred QualificationsExperience with Yocto Project or similar embedded Linux frameworksOpen-source community involvementExperience in automotive, industrial, or networking industriesCertification in agile methodologies (Scrum Master, etc.)Experience with distributed team managementMaintainer or core contributor status in major open-source projectsExtensive Yocto Project experience and leadershipSignificant Linux kernel contributions and recognitionExperience in safety-critical industries (aerospace, automotive, medical)Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, DO-178C, etc.)Open-source project governance experienceIndustry recognition (awards, keynote speaking, etc.)Published technical papers or articles on open-source topicsKey Performance IndicatorsOpen-source contribution quality and impactCommunity engagement and relationship buildingStrategic open-source project participationUpstream contribution acceptance rateConference presentations and speaking engagementsMentoring and development of open-source contributorsOpen-source strategy executionIndustry recognition and thought leadershipKey Performance IndicatorsTeam retention rate (target: 85%+)Team productivity and sprint velocityCode quality metricsOnboarding time to productivityEmployee satisfaction and engagement scoresProject delivery on time and within budgetCustomer satisfaction and engagementCandidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis - without requirement for any type of visa sponsorship/transfer, now, or at any time in future.
