Controller / Director of OperationsLocation: Troy, MI (Overseeing Multiple Office Locations)Type: Full-Time | Onsite Monday through Friday 8am - 5pmAbout the RoleWe are seeking a strategic, hands-on Controller / Director of Operations for our client in Troy to lead all financial and operational functions. This is a Direct-Hire opportunity and combines traditional controller responsibilities with oversight of HR, payroll, benefits, and multi-location operations.As a key member of leadership, this individual will partner closely with partners and board members to ensure financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and long-term growth across three office locations.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & OversightLead all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, and financial reportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsAnalyze profitabilityDevelop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flowOversee billing (hourly, contingency, and flat fee structures)Monitor Work in Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to improve collectionsEnsure strict compliance with trust accounting and IOLTA regulationsManage partner distributions and firm cash flowPrepare and oversee tax-related filings including business tax returns, 1099s, and property taxesCollaborate with external accounting firm on financial reporting, tax strategy, and complianceHR, Payroll & Benefits AdministrationProcess bi-monthly payroll and ensure compliance with all applicable regulationsManage employee benefits programs (health, dental, 401k, etc.) and support administration of annual bonus programsLead recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processesMaintain HR policies and ensure compliance with employment lawsHandle employee relation matters, including addressing and resolving employee issues and concernsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus)5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experienceManufacturing, Law or professional services experience strongly preferredStrong knowledge of legal billing, WIP, AR, and trust accounting (IOLTA)Experience overseeing HR functions, payroll, and benefitsProven leadership experience, ideally across multiple locationsStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $75,000 – $115,000+ (based on experience)Health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysProfessional development opportunities
