This position may be responsible for contacting substitutes or covering shift vacancies when necessary. It also includes working with the Director of Facilities to identify training gaps and recommend appropriate training or updated methods to improve efficiency. The overall goal is to maintain a high level of service and ensure consistent practices throughout the District. Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting all areas of a facility. Perform basic cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance of an assigned building and associated grounds including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, etc. Provides a high level customer service for school events and community activities including set-up/clean-up.The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and is open to working shifts in sometimes harsh and physically demanding situations. The ideal candidate sees themselves as an integral part of the school team and takes pride in making the school a clean, safe and inviting place to be. Excellent time management skills are needed to efficiently complete daily tasks.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe following is a list of all essential functions that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks, depending on the needs of the building.Depending upon individual school needs and level, the school Custodian performs all or a combination of several of the following duties as assigned by the Lead Custodian.Responsible for contacting substitutes or covering shift vacancies when necessary.Collaborates with the Director of Facilities to identify training gaps and recommend appropriate training or updated methods to improve custodial efficiency and consistency.Supports efforts to maintain a high level of service and ensure consistent custodial practices across the District.Cleans and disinfects areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.Dusts each room on a regular basis.Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work and computer screens.Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms and locker rooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panelsand drinking fountains daily.Checks and stocks bathroom supplies.Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner.Responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings,athletic events and other needs as assigned.Locks doors and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings and property as assigned.Makes minor repairs (i.e., sinks, tiles, lockers, change light bulbs, etc.).Adjusts clocks.Picks up trash.Empties and cleans waste containers.Periodic safety inspections (such as playgrounds, fire extinguishers, AEDs, etc.)Performs routine grounds keeping duties, i.e., grass cutting and tree and shrub trimming, to maintain the grounds in a safe and attractive condition.Remove debris from school grounds.Responds promptly to reports of, or encounters with, pests such as rodents, insects and termites. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.Reasoning Ability: Excellent attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion in confidential and sensitive matters. Ability to solve practice problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
