Support Activities for MiningCoal MiningMetal Ore MiningNonmetallic Mineral Mining and QuarryingArchitectural, Engineering, and Related ServicesBrierley Associates is seeking qualified candidates to join our team as an entry to mid-level staff engineer, geologist or similar in our Cottage Grove, MN office.RequirementsCandidates must possess a BS degree (MS preferred) in geology or geotechnical, geological, mining, civil engineering, or similar/applicable degree or field from an accredited university.Candidates must be highly motivated and possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.The ability to multi-task, work under strict deadlines, and collaborate is essential.0-5 years of experience.ResponsibilitiesTechnical/engineering support of projects involving geohazards (both natural and man-made) and/or the reclamation of abandoned mine sites (soft and hard rock mines) with similar, but distinct, site issues. This includes the analysis and design solutions pertaining to sites with slope stability/rockfalls, sinkholes, subsidence, erosion/sediment control, and karst related challenges, as well as evaluating and creating solutions pertaining to abandoned mine sites such as mine fires, ground subsidence, Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), clogged streams, dangerous embankments, abandoned tailings dams, the removal and treatment of mine gob, and highwalls.This Will Include Performing Tasks Such AsPreparing design computations, models, calculations, and quantity estimatesLayout and detailing of engineering drawingsReport writingConducting and overseeing on-site geotechnical/geological exploration and investigation programs (including the logging of soil and rock samples)Construction site visits to monitor progress and other elements of contract documentsAssist in client communicationsAssist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, and plansProblem solving with other engineers and contractorsProviding technical assistance to other Brierley offices.Occasional travel to project sites should be expected.
