Sr. Project Engineer
At Paradigm Mechanical Corp., we design and build mechanical systems for government, and industrial facilities throughout Southern California. A significant portion of our portfolio is federal work — JOC and MACC contracts with NAVFAC and other military and government agencies. Our projects are complex, our standards are high, and our team is growing.
We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer who doesn't just execute — they lead. Someone who manages workflow across the project portfolio, holds deadlines, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. If you know federal contracting, thrive on systems and accountability, and drive a team toward a zero-punchlist finish, this role was built for you.
What You'll Do
Department Leadership
Lead and oversee the Project Engineer department — setting standards, managing workload, and developing the team
Track all work coming in and out of the PE department across the full project portfolio
Manage and enforce deadlines for submittals, RFIs, closeouts, and all document deliverables
Serve as the escalation point for document control issues across active projects
Identify bottlenecks and proactively resolve workflow gaps before they impact the project team
Federal & Commercial Project Execution
Manage document control on JOC and MACC contracts — RFIs, submittals, change orders, modifications, claims, and correspondence — in full compliance with NAVFAC and federal contract requirements
Understand and apply federal project delivery requirements including UFGS specifications, contract modifications, and agency-specific submittal processes
Lead client interaction during preconstruction and project closeout phases on both federal and commercial projects
Create and review preconstruction documentation packages; ensure submittals are prepared and submitted within required contract timelines
Ensure project closeouts are completed and submitted within one week of final walkthrough; review warranty letters prior to President signature
Maintain compliance with all internal, external, and federal record-keeping requirements
Oversee subcontractor coordination and progress tracking across projects
Conduct and supervise Quality Control / Quality Assurance checks throughout the project lifecycle in accordance with contract requirements
Systems & Training
Serve as the Paradigm expert in Egnyte — maintain filing standards and train field leads, SSHOs, and new employees on the program and filing system
Train field supervisors on daily reports: where to find forms, how to complete and submit
Drive continuous improvement in PE department processes, tools, and templates
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in construction project engineering or project management
Federal contracting experience required — JOC, MACC, IDIQ, or similar contract vehicles strongly preferred
Familiarity with NAVFAC project delivery, UFGS specifications, and federal submittal and documentation requirements
Understanding of government contract modifications, RFIs, and change order processes in a federal environment
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Experience leading or mentoring a team
Strong command of construction software and document control systems; Egnyte experience a plus
Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills
Exceptional organizational skills — you build systems, you don't just use them
Strong written and verbal communication; confident in client-facing and agency-facing situations
Self-directed, accountable, and solutions-oriented
Ability to establish trust and credibility with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and government representatives
Our Values — and Yours
We don't just post values on a wall. We hire for them.
Work Hard / Play Hard
We go above and beyond to find solutions for our clients and teammates. We take accountability for our shortcomings and are always improving. And we make time for family, hobbies, and celebrating wins together.
Attention to Detail
Reading and following the fine print sets us apart from the competition. We do quality work, we're thorough, and we target a zero-punchlist on every project.
Go Getter
We are not afraid of a challenge. We are growth-minded and constantly improving — our processes, our training, and ourselves personally.
Impact
We give clients confidence that we can solve their issues. We treat our teammates like clients. We do more than expected.
What We Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
401(k) plan with profit-sharing opportunities
