This role includes field inspections, documentation, materials testing, quantity tracking, and coordination with project teams.Key ResponsibilitiesObserve and document daily construction activitiesInspect roadway, bridge, drainage, and utility workVerify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety requirementsSample and test construction materialsMeasure quantities and maintain project recordsReview contractor submittals and report non-compliance issuesComplete daily reports and project documentationQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredAssociate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferredGDOT and/or SCDOT inspection experience preferredProficiency with Microsoft OfficeStrong math, communication, and problem-solving skillsValid driver's license and ability to work in field environmentsExperience Levels Inspector I0–3 years of construction inspection experienceAbility to obtain required certifications within six monthsInspector II3+ years of transportation construction inspection experienceCurrent DOT certifications preferredExperience with roadway, bridge, asphalt, concrete, drainage, or earthwork inspectionPreferred CertificationsGeorgia: ART, EDBT, Concrete Technician I & II, Work Zone Traffic Control, ACI Field Testing TechnicianSouth Carolina: Concrete Technician, Asphalt Roadway Technician, Earthwork & Base Technician, Foundations Certification, Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification ICE provides training and support to help inspectors obtain certifications and advance their careers. *Work EnvironmentThis position requires regular field work on active construction sites, including standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Night and weekend work may be required based on project schedules.Safety RequirementFor positions involving field work, completion of OSHA 10 certification is required as a condition of employment. New hires without current certification must complete the training within two (2) weeks of hire. ICE will provide the training and cover associated costs.Physical DemandsThe role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope, and may include working in conditions with active traffic.Expected Hours of WorkThe ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
