Mechanical Design Engineer | San Francisco Bay Area | Onsite | Market Leading Compensation
TECHNE, partnering with a next-generation defense technology company, is developing advanced power systems and fully integrated vehicle platforms for the future of U.S. defense. This role offers a chance to transition from engineering integration to in-house product development by defining proprietary mechanical architecture.
Responsibilities
Own hardware design from initial requirements through concept, prototyping, production, and field deployment.
Design and integrate mechanical systems across next‑generation energy storage, advanced materials, thermal management solutions, power electronic hardware, dense PCBAs, and wiring harnesses.
Develop highly integrated products focusing on packaging efficiency, thermal performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
Rapidly prototype, debug, iterate, and deliver deployable hardware on compressed development timelines.
Design mechanical, thermal, and electromechanical components for volume manufacturing from the earliest stages of development.
Produce high‑quality engineering drawings and CAD models using industry best practices.
Support customer hardware demonstrations and translate operational feedback into engineering solutions.
Collaborate closely with electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams throughout product development.
Experience Required
Two or more years of mechanical engineering, product development, or engineering design experience with strong systems design exposure.
Experience in highly integrated engineering environments such as Formula SAE, BAJA, or equivalent commercial programs.
Strong 3D CAD experience (preferably SOLIDWORKS) with CAE and FEA knowledge.
Strong understanding of GD&T and ASME engineering drawing standards.
Broad engineering fundamentals across structures, materials, thermal systems, fluids, controls, mechanics, and system modeling.
Manufacturing knowledge across sheet metal, CNC machining, turning, sand casting, forging, and die casting.
Hands‑on prototyping, fabrication, machining, welding, and related skills.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience in low and high‑voltage system integration, lithium‑ion battery thermal management, and ANSYS/Fluent/Star‑CCM+/Abaqus/COMSOL/HyperWorks.
Experience with LabVIEW, DIAdem, DAQs, PEAK PCAN, Vector tools, or Python.
Familiarity with PLM systems (Confluence, Jira, Polarion, Teamcenter) and integrating PCBAs, composites, injection molding, and advanced manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of MIL‑STD, DO‑160, automotive, aerospace, or defense engineering standards.
Why This Opportunity
Own hardware throughout the complete engineering lifecycle, from requirements through field deployment.
Join at a pivotal stage as the company builds its proprietary mechanical and electromechanical design capability.
Work on next‑generation defense technology alongside engineers from Tesla, SpaceX, Lucid, Rivian, and Apple.
Address technically challenging multidisciplinary problems across mechanical systems, power electronics, thermal management, and advanced manufacturing.
Influence long‑term product architecture rather than maintaining legacy platforms.
Receive market‑leading compensation alongside meaningful equity participation.
Onsite location. Competitive base salary + equity.
