Vessel Fitter

Job Title: Vessel Fitter – Pressure Vessels & Gas Compression Equipment Location: New Iberia, LA Shift: 1st, Mon-Fri 6am-4:30pm, some Saturday's as needed Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract-to-Hire) Position Summary The Vessel Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, and assembling pressure vessel components used in the manufacturing of gas compression and industrial processing equipment. This role requires the ability to read and interpret detailed vessel fabrication drawings, accurately fit shell sections, heads, nozzles, and internals, and prepare assemblies for welding in accordance with ASME and company specifications. The ideal candidate has experience in pressure vessel fabrication, strong layout skills, and a high commitment to safety and quality. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities Read, interpret, and work from pressure vessel fabrication drawings, weld maps, and blueprints. Layout, fit, and assemble vessel shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, reinforcements, and internals. Perform accurate measurements, marking, and layout for cutting, drilling, and fitting operations. Prepare components for welding by beveling, grinding, and aligning joints. Fit components for MIG, Flux-Core, or Sub-Arc welding processes. Verify fit-up tolerances, dimensions, and alignment per ASME Section VIII and company standards. Install vessel attachments including supports, lifting lugs, saddles, and brackets. Work closely with welders, inspectors, and quality teams to ensure proper fit and final assembly. Assist with hydro-test preparation and dimensional inspections. Safely operate cranes, forklifts, positioners, and other material handling equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Required Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of experience in pressure vessel or heavy fabrication fitting. Strong ability to read and interpret pressure vessel fabrication drawings and weld symbols. Experience fitting carbon steel and alloy steel vessels. Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel fabrication practices. Proficiency using precision measuring tools (tape, calipers, squares, levels). Ability to work from tight tolerances and detailed layouts. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various physical positions. Preferred Qualifications Experience fitting gas compression equipment, separators, scrubbers, and pressure vessels. Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, Divisions 1 & 2. Experience with roll-out vessel fabrication. Forklift and overhead crane certification. Work Environment Heavy manufacturing and fabrication shop environment. Exposure to heat, noise, welding fumes, and industrial machinery. Required use of PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and face shields.
