Applications Software Engineer

REF: APP-81005 Applications Software Engineer Take responsibility for providing application support via a suite of API’s implemented on our industry leading MediaPro embedded hardware and software communications products. Principal responsibilities include architecture, design, development and documentation of a range of communication applications resident on Linux, Solaris and real time OS platforms to interface effectively and efficiently to our products. Responsibilities further include software development and support of OS kernel level drivers for the cPCI and VME bus. Provide a complete product solution including detailed example code, software reference manuals, customer training and demonstrations. Take responsibility for designing and maintaining fully tested and documented software, as well as maintaining the applications software version control system. Key Responsibilities: Architecture, design, development of Linux, Solaris and RTOS application software. Develop and support operating system kernel level drivers for the cPCI bus and VME bus. Participate in the design, implementation and testing of software products. Create product documents. Participate in design and code reviews. Technical liaison with Sun and Linux communities. Technical training and customer liaison. Develop and document example application code for supporting a wide variety of communications applications, including high availability software support. Architecture, design, development and documentation of application software to meet customer requirements for our MediaPro product family. Requirements: BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field. At least 5 years experience with UNIX kernel operating systems I/O drivers, C++, C. Familiarity with a variety of operating systems, including Linux, VxWorks and Windows NT. Skills: Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Strong knowledge of multi-threaded real time programming in C, C++. Strong background in hardware/software integration, RTOS and kernel level drivers. Good technical and interpersonal skills coupled with strong customer service orientation. Desired Capabilities: General knowledge of RTOS and Power PC processor families; VME and cPCI bus. Broad view of the technology and systems they are working with. Strong technical leadership and ability to work with little or no supervision. Other Responsibilities: Understand in detail, functionality and application areas related to the assigned project. Participate in design reviews. Recommend changes to the product specifications, design and documentation. Generate status reports as required.
