Rad Extern - Radiology - General Hospital

Job SummaryThe Radiologic Technology Extern Level I provides support in diagnostic imaging procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed radiologic technologist. This role is designed to offer hands-on experience to students enrolled in an accredited radiologic technology program, while ensuring compliance with program requirements and hospital policies.Responsibilities• Observe in all diagnostic areas without independently performing medical imaging on patients. Apply the principles of radiation protection to minimize personal exposure. This includes refraining from operating equipment, positing patients, or initiating image acquisition.• Assist with transportation of patients to and from care units and outpatient waiting rooms.• Assist with patient transfer to and from beds and wheelchairs to exam table.• Escort patient to and from the procedure room and assist as needed with patient arrival and departure from the department.• Provide direct patient care by assisting with gowning and other basic physical care needed to promote comfort.• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA regulations.Other Information:• This position is performed in the clinical setting with exposure to radiation, infectious diseases, and bodily fluids. Proper precautions are to be always followed.• Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to patient care.• Ensure infection control standards are followed in all clinical areas.• Prepare and clean exam rooms before and after procedures.• Assist with keeping the exams rooms properly stocked.• Answer all phone calls in a timely and courteous manner, identifying self and department.• Perform front desk duties as assigned.• Participate in coordination of the department's daily workflow.• Assist with EMR and PACS duties as needed.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesPatient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.
