Assistant Administrative Laboratory Director

Laboratory Director AssistantAssist the Laboratory Director position under CMS Standard D6077 and/or D6078. Provide services as directed by CMS Standards D6080-D6140 Laboratory Director Responsibilities, Assists the Technical Consultant and Clinical Consultant Responsibilities and applicable delegatory items as appropriate for Norton Sound Regional Hospital Laboratory. Assists Administrative Laboratory Director and must maintain an in-depth knowledge of Medical Laboratory principles, practices, standards, requirements and techniques. Assist in directing employees, maintaining competency, training of staff and completion of staff performance evaluations and corrective actions. Uphold the organization's vision, mission, and corporate values. Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with organization's policies, procedures, code of conduct and work rules. Assist with the selection, scheduling, training, performance management and discipline of laboratory staff. Instill passion in staff for NSHC's mission, vision, and values, paying particular attention to the maintenance of a safe and productive work environment Demonstrate personal initiative and accountability while assisting the Administrative Director overseeing the department's operations and budget. Helps to forecast needs and allocate resources. Assist in the oversight of staff to ensure that the proper testing is ordered, resulted and that there are no ambiguities in the physician's order. Assist in the monitoring of cost containment measures in ordering and maintaining laboratory supply stock and inventory Assist in monitoring the Electronic Health Record and Laboratory Information System and assist in the development of policies and procedures Contribute to the development, implementation, and annual review of policies and procedures Participate in meetings to assist in the areas of quality assurance, quality improvement, strategic planning, and clinical education Facilitate communication with the medical staff, other clinical departments and NSHC Administration when necessary Be available to participate as needed during Laboratory and Hospital Accreditation Inspections and surveys by agencies including but not limited to: The Joint Commission, COLA, CMS, CLIA, HRSA, and others as necessary. Job specific skills and abilities are listed below: Above average interpersonal, customer service and communication skills Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science Experience: 6 year(s) in a hospital laboratory, 2 (years) in a supervisor or manager role directing hospital laboratory staff recommended Credentials: Nationally registered or licensed as a Medical Technologist or equivalent Physical Requirements: Use hands and arms to operate office or clinical equipment, Stand and/or walk more than half the workday, Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach, View electronic monitors for prolonged periods of time, Push or pull using up to moderate force, See and hear with normal acuity Working Conditions: Work is conducted in a standard clinical environment to include exposure to latex, biohazard or other harmful substances, Moderate travel is required (between 25% and 50% of the time), Travel is required via large aircraft, Travel is required via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft
