Substation Structural Designer

Key responsibilities include leading design reviews, mentoring junior designers, collaborating with other disciplines, managing project timelines, and staying updated on relevant technologies to ensure the structural integrity and successful delivery of projects. Effective communication supported by a philosophy of continuous improvement and teamwork is required. Primary Responsibilities Resource allocation for direct reports and coordination with engineering manager. Identify and resolve project issues by keeping an open line of communication between the internal project team and the client. Interact directly with clients to review and resolve technical project related issues without supervision. Collaborate with engineers/designers across disciplines and identify/resolve potential design issues to assure a complete, high-quality product. Ensures project deliverables for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with Company and Client standards. QA/QC site steel plans, sections, details along with corresponding BOMs prepared by direct reports. QA/QC foundation plans, sections, details along with corresponding BOMs. Identifies and resolves design interferences. Ensure electrical assets can mount easily, coordinating vendor equipment mounting templates with Leidos' steel design. Ensure engineering design details are properly represented for the development of "greenfield" (new) substations. Perform design due diligence as it relates to site expansion projects or brownfield work for within existing substations. May provide additional support to our site-civil and physical design groups in laying out plans, sections, and details for substation projects. Basic Required Qualifications AA/2-year degree in Engineering Technology - CAD or related scientific/technical discipline Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in steel design. Additional direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education. Demonstrated Understanding of design concepts associated with high voltage electrical substations Proficient in Substation Power Delivery Software: Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation Additional Preferred Qualifications 3D Modeling Using Autodesk Inventor Candidates must be located in the United States in order to be considered, as this role cannot be performed from outside of the US.
