Elementary School Assistant PrincipalProvidence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional Elementary School Assistant Principal who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders.We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak over 75 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.The Assistant Principal is responsible for supporting the principal with administering and supervising the total school program by establishing high expectations student achievement; building a positive school climate that supports the whole student; leveraging research and data to drive initiatives and instruction; and building and developing a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the school's vision and goals. The assistant principal will support the principal in building collaborative partnerships with parents, community members, consultants, as well as, other internal/external resources and stakeholders to implement educational programs, capital improvements, systems reform, tools and other resources to accelerate student achievement.Supervision Received: The assistant principal works under the general supervision of a superior with latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgment; work is reviewed upon completion through conferences and reports for conformance to established policies, objectives, rules and regulations.Supervision Exercised: Plans, coordinates, organizes, supervises and evaluates the work of an instructional, professional, technical and clerical staff.Education Requirements:Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in educational administration/leadership; andMinimum of five (5) years in teaching experienceAdministrative residency in an urban school setting, preferredMust have had experience in a teacher leadership position which provided the opportunities to engage in the following: lead collaborative data analysis, action planning, lesson study, and peer observationRIDE Certification Requirements:Rhode Island Department of Education Certification Building Administration PK-12Qualifications:Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, school operations, and student servicesLed and/or supported school improvement planningCoordinated school engagement activitiesExcellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skillsConfidence to lead a community of diverse learnersFocus on action and results in order to create a positive learning cultureAbility to build and lead adult teams to promote the mission and vision of PPSDMust have the knowledge and skills to build positive relationships with people from diverse populationsCommitment to the mission and vision of PPSD and the relevance of job functions to that mission and visionYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
