Registered Nurse- SANE

Variable (United States of America)Registered Nurse- SANEUnder guidance of the SANE Program Coordinator and the SANE Medical Director, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Forensic Nurse provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate medical-forensic care to male or female patients who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence, strangulation or other violent crimes through direct patient care. This is an on-call position only outside of case and/or training times.• Perform a complete medical and forensic examination.Explain all options available to the patient so that he/she can make informed decisions.Collect evidence at the patient's request, guided by the history given.Document detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence.Maintain chain of custody to include evidence collected and the forensic medical records and adhere to release policy.Maintain professional standards including patient and medical record confidentiality.Administer appropriate medications per standing order protocol.Provide testimony as a fact or expert witness when subpoenaed, to any cases performed while with Halifax Health and coordinate with attorneys during the judicial process.Assess client needs, provide crisis intervention, and assist in safety planning.Adhere to departmental polices related to the care of sexual assault patients.Work collaboratively with victim advocates, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders.Maintain patient confidentiality and acts in an ethical manner at all timesFollows legal and ethical guidelines in providing nursing care.SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse.At a minimum, taken and passed the 41-hour Adult/Adolescent SANE class given by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (assistance getting into a class may be provided).Have an active Florida RN license with no restrictions.Have at least 2 years of direct patient care nursing experience preferred.Maintains BLS certification. ACLS preferred.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ability to respond to any hospital in Volusia County within 60-90 minutes max of the dispatch call.Take variable on call shifts (day, night, and weekend).Participates in continuing education and skill review trainings.Have excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills. Able to work independently.Adhere to all requirements of the job description/contract.
