Volunteer Coordinator
The chapter volunteer coordinator (VC) connects volunteer applicants with ourmission-driven work through the local chapter based on the applicants' areas ofinterest, to best utilize the applicant's available time and talents. The VC worksclosely with the assigned field staff and local board to manage, develop, and growthe volunteer capacity of their chapter.RequirementsMust be 18 years or olderMust have strong attention to detail and organizational skillsMust be an outgoing personality that enjoys engaging with peopleMust have availability to maintain long-term communications with applicants, with the ability to assign roles and keep volunteers on track/engaged at events as neededMust be comfortable with public speaking in order to host onboarding presentations for new volunteersMust be willing to hold this role for a minimum of two yearsMust be willing to work collaboratively with local AFSP field staff and chapter leadershipMust review and sign the AFSP Volunteer Code of ConductDesired QualitiesAlready familiar with AFSP in some way (volunteer, board member or advocate)Has participated (or willing to participate) in Talk Saves Lives, safeTALK or ASISTInterested in additional training to become a presenter of TSL and AFSP 101, Volunteer Onboarding PresentationWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong in communications (phone, text, email), and an active participant on social mediaKnowledge of the chapter structure and leadership to be able to effectively connect volunteers with the right chapter leaders based on their areas of interestTime CommitmentMust have availability to commit to 2-5 volunteer hours per week.ResponsibilitiesThe VC will oversee and lead the volunteer committee managing all aspects of the chapter volunteerprogram including recruitment, engagement, orientation and support, informal evaluation, and recognition. VC will work closely with the chapter board, committee chairs and field staff to assess the volunteer needs of the chapter.The VC will follow the Volunteer Toolkit to implement best practices for volunteer cultivation and volunteer management for the chapter.
