Minimum QualificationsPLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT THE FABENS WAREHOUSE**Acceptable Experience And EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years experience in the operation of single axle trucks and related automotive equipment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Certificates And Licenses RequiredIn order to access the County’s network and systems, a personal mobile smart device is required by the hire start date.Must have or obtain by date of hire Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso;Possess and maintain a valid state of Texas Class B commercial driver’s license;Subject to federal drug and local drug and alcohol testing regulations, which include pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return to duty and follow-up testing.Typical DutiesEssential DutiesDrives single-axle dump trucks, flat bed trucks or water trucks, tractors with mowing machine and loader attachments; skid loaders, operates small patch compactors in connection with applying hot mix pot-hole patching on county roads;Services and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment, and performing preventive maintenance on equipment including checking oils, fluids, and tire pressure;Works in a crew picking up rocks, leaves and trash, and cleans up after heavier equipment and assists in the loading and unloading of trucks; install guardrails, repair detached or dented guardrails; patches potholes;Supports park and landfill maintenance as needed;Paints dividing lines between traffic lanes; paint crosswalks; place and repair traffic signs;Flags motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead; sets out signs and cones to divert traffic around construction areas;Maintains warehouse area including sweeping, washing, and painting; removes weeds, dead trees, and brush; trims grass and trees around warehouse area;Operates various light equipment and hand tools;Operates trucks to transport material and equipment to work sites; load/unload material from trucks; deliver material to secondary warehouse;Disposes of road kill;Pumps water from flooded streets and other areas; plows snow; applies sand and salt to icy roads;Trains on trucks utilized by the Road/Maintenance Worker Int., including tandem dump trucks and truck tractor with trailer;Performs daily walk around of vehicles and reports any problems to Foreman;Assists co-workers with various related tasks;Other Important Duties*Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and,Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;May work weekends, holidays, and 24/7 standby;Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment;As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.Job SummarySummary of PositionThe Road/Maintenance Worker, under close and frequent supervision, operate trucks under 33,000 G.V.W. or other light equipment as directed.
