General Summary:
A GIS Technician has a supportive role in the design, development and maintenance of maps and technical drawings.
A GIS Technician also has a supportive role in analyzing spatial data, digitizing, create and maintaining digital databases.
A GIS Technician understands map projections and cartographic principles and can create simple maps.
A GIS Technician understands the function of GPS and KML data.
Essential Job Functions:
Produce data layers, maps, tables, or reports, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology for project related needs
Perform varied data gathering and entry to create, display, maintain, and update Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases, coverages, and linkages to various GIS databases
Demonstrate excellent listening skills and the ability to ask probing questions, and understand concerns to reach a mutually beneficial resolution
Have a strong work ethic and be a self-starter, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment
Regular, reliable, consistent, and punctual attendance is required
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to apply techniques and procedures to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Ability to work independently
Demonstrate ability to communicate well with a positive & friendly manner both orally and in writing
Demonstrate the ability to accept responsibility for and work under occasional stressful situations with frequent interruptions
Demonstrate desire to learn new skills as technologies change
Demonstrate the ability to multi-task
Regular, reliable, consistent and punctual attendance is required
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED GIS Certificate of completion. (0-2) years of related work experience preferred but not required.
Entry-level position with no previous experience required.

Seeing: Must be able to read computer screen and various reports. 75-100%
Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with customers and business contacts. 75-100%

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0-24%
Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type and use phone system. 75-100%
