Remote Medical Director, Clinical Development - Ophthalmology/RetinalWe are exclusively partnered with a leading pharmaceutical organization to bring onboard an additional Medical Director to plan and direct clinical research activities for their late-phase retinal program. The role will manage the entire cycle of clinical development for their assigned studies, including study design, initiation, execution, study analysis, regulatory reporting, monitoring, and publications.Role Overview In this position, the Medical Director plays a central role in shaping and executing clinical development initiatives. Key responsibilities include designing clinical studies and contributing to operational planning aligned with the broader development strategy. The individual will oversee the medical integrity and execution of clinical trials across both investigational and approved therapies. A critical part of the role involves interpreting clinical data to inform decisions related to safety, efficacy, regulatory filings, and scientific communications such as study reports and publications. The Medical Director also collaborates across internal teams, and with external partners when needed, to advance drug development programs and contribute to the evaluation of potential business opportunities. Cross-Functional Leadership The individual will work closely with colleagues across multiple disciplines to support study delivery and ensure alignment across functions. This includes regular interaction with teams in regulatory affairs, commercial strategy, biostatistics, and manufacturing to guide clinical programs forward. They will also help keep internal stakeholders informed on the progress of ongoing studies, as well as relevant developments within the competitive landscape. Acting as a subject matter expert, the Medical Director may be called upon to provide scientific guidance both internally and in external-facing settings. Scientific Engagement and Thought Leadership Maintaining deep expertise in the relevant therapeutic area is essential. This includes staying current on evolving scientific trends, emerging data, and new research approaches. The Medical Director will identify and build relationships with leading investigators and key opinion leaders who can support clinical programs. Active participation in scientific congresses and professional forums is expected to ensure continued awareness of advancements in the field and to strengthen the organization’s external presence. Additional Responsibilities To support the broader objectives of the role, the Medical Director may develop key materials such as strategic documents, presentations, and budgets for internal and external use. The role also involves fostering collaborations with external researchers globally and contributing to cross-organizational initiatives. Travel is expected to be approximately 20% in order to support clinical study oversight and relationship management tied to ongoing and future research activities. Education and Experience Requirements: M.D. Or M.D./Ph.D Must have experience in industry or as faculty in academia Minimum of 3 years of clinical medicine experience Minimum of 1 year of industry experience in ophthalmology drug development or biomedical research experience in academia focused in Ophthalmology Demonstrated record of scientific scholarship and achievement Proven track record in clinical medicine Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills Board Certified or Eligible in Ophthalmology or related discipline preferred
