Fabrication Shop Estimator
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Metal Fabrication Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between initial concepts and final production, ensuring our metal projects are quoted accurately, competitively, and realistically.The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of structural steel and custom metalwork, with the ability to translate complex blueprints into comprehensive cost models.Key ResponsibilitiesQuote Preparation: Analyze drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to define the scope of work, including material needs and specific processes like cutting, welding, and bending.Comprehensive Costing: Calculate total project expenses, encompassing raw materials, shop overhead, transportation, and specialized outsourcing (e.g., powder coating, galvanizing).Supplier & Vendor Relations: Coordinate with vendors to secure competitive pricing for materials and third-party services.Internal Collaboration: Partner with Shop Supervisors to identify the most efficient fabrication methods and establish realistic production timelines.Technical Consultation: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert guidance on proposals, revisions, and technical specifications.Risk Mitigation: Conduct pre-production analysis to identify potential manufacturing challenges and proactively develop solutions.Qualifications & Technical RequirementsIndustry Expertise: Strong background in metal fabrication processes, material properties, welding standards, and CNC/Manual machine operations.Technical Literacy: Mastery of complex blueprint reading and the ability to interpret intricate technical specifications.Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla PowerFab) and modern ERP or estimating systems.Mathematical Precision: Advanced mathematical skills for calculating precise material yields, tolerances, and labor hours.Communication: Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with both shop floor staff and executive-level clients.Experience RequirementsProfessional Background: Typically 2–5 years of experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or structural steel estimating.Specialized Knowledge: A proven track record involving CNC machining or advanced welding techniques is highly preferred.Are you ready to build something great?
