Zero Proof Bartender and Trainer (004086)
Design and deliver a high-quality zero proof beverage program by curating distinctive drink flavors and leading the training of student bartenders to successfully operate a student-run bar.This is considered a part-time, hourly, non-benefits eligible position. The minimum starting rate for the position is $16.84 per hour.Core Responsibilities: Curate distinct zero proof drink flavors appealing to college students using non-alcoholic ingredientsTrain and mentor student bartenders on bar setup, drink preparation and mixology, customer service, and safe drink handling practicesCoordinate bar setup processes, ensuring equipment care and cleanliness and efficient workflowProvide feedback on student performance during service to ensure adherence to established procedures and quality standardsManage inventory levels and prepare and oversee prebatch production, maintaining accurate measurements, labeling, and storage of all beverage componentsRequirementsDeep understanding of flavor profiling to create complex and appealing zero-proof cocktailsExperience with non-alcoholic mixology techniques (e.g. shrubs, syrups, alcohol-free spirits)Ability to develop and standardize recipes for prebatching, ensuring consistency, scalability, and ease of replication by studentsStrong training and instructional skills, creating clear hands-on learning experiencesKnowledge of drink sanitation practices, especially for batch preparation, storage, and serviceExcellent organization and workflow planning, including bar setup, prep lists, and efficient service execution in a teaching environmentEffective communication and mentorship abilities to guide student bartenders with varying experience levelsBackground in hospitality, culinary arts, or equivalent hands-on experience in bar or café settingsPhysical Demands & Working Conditions: Stand and move continuously for extended periods (2-5 hours) during event setup and service; lift, carry, and transport bar supplies (e.g. tables, buckets, ice, cases of beverages) typically 10-40 lbs; tolerate varying environmental conditions such as warm temperatures behind bar and loud high-energy spaces with live music, DJs, or student karaoke; perform repetitive motions such as pouring, shaking, cutting garnishes, and assembling drinks with speed and precision; work in dim lighting and crowded spaces maintaining awareness of surroundings and safe movement behind bar; adapt to fluctuating pace and volume of service and multitask under pressure; engage actively with students and guests in a social atmosphere while ensuring safe and inclusive environment.BenefitsAs an employee of Middlebury College, you will enjoy being part of a vibrant supportive community.Come join us and be a part of our team!Middlebury College is an equal-opportunity employer where diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values.
