Senior Platform Engineer (Embedded Linux)

Embedded Linux EngineerMatic is hiring a senior-level Embedded Linux Engineer to join us (pre-launch) on the ground floor, with runway for huge and immediate impact.In this role, you'd be joining our Platform team, which works on a diverse set of problems, ranging from low-level driver and kernel development all the way up to interfacing with the complex perception algorithms running locally on the robot, with high performance expectations and very limited computes.We're looking for someone with strong embedded Linux and C/C++ skills who's also eager to learn Rust. If you're driven by high levels of ownership and solving complex problems, we'd love to chat!What You'll DoDevelop core device systems software and functionality from the ground upEnable mechanical engineering and other teams by building a robust software stack that interacts with firmware, motors, sensors and other software agentsWork with both EE and software teams to ensure feature feasibility & functionalityPerform root cause analysis of system crashes and hardware failuresIdentify bugs & bottlenecks to improve system performanceDevelop and debug pipelines for data from cameras and other sensorsBe an integral member of our small software teamWhat We Look For5+ years of industry experienceStrong familiarity with userspace Linux programming and conventions & working knowledge of Linux kernel internalsDeep experience in multi-threaded CFamiliarity with a systems scripting language, such as Shell or PythonKnowledge of common communication protocols (e.g. USB, RS232, TCP/IP/HTTP)Experience with working on C, or C++ microcontroller firmware is a big plusComfort with a fast-paced, startup atmosphere -- you don't shy away from the hard workHigh level of maturity, ownership, and pride in your workWe'd Love To Hear From You If...You are genuinely motivated to help those around youYou are passionate about learning outside of your normal comfort zonesYou love diagnosing complex technical issuesYou are excited to do great workCompensation Base $160,000 — $240,000. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience and qualifications. Base salary is one part of the total compensation package.
