This role focuses heavily on municipal defense through the South Carolina state insurance defense fund, handling a wide range of litigation matters that public entities face.This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who thrives in litigation, enjoys complex fact patterns, and is motivated by public-sector work with meaningful community impact.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent municipalities, counties, public agencies, and government officials in civil litigation matters.Manage a diverse caseload primarily involving: Personal injury defenseEmployment law claims (wrongful termination, discrimination, hostile work environment, §1983 claims)Products liability mattersGeneral municipal liability (e.g., land use, civil rights actions, premises liability, law enforcement liability).Handle all stages of litigation, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, mediation, and trial.Prepare legal analyses, case evaluations, and reports for insurers and municipal clients.Develop and maintain strong client relationships with municipal leaders, risk managers, and the state insurance defense fund.Collaborate with partners to develop defense strategies aligned with client goals.QualificationsActive South Carolina Bar license required.2–7+ years of litigation experience preferred (insurance defense or government/municipal experience strongly valued).Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.Ability to manage cases independently while working collaboratively with a team.Experience handling a high-volume caseload and meeting litigation deadlines.Professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to public-sector clients.Why This Role?Opportunity to work on meaningful and varied litigation impacting local governments.Stable workflow supported by the state insurance defense fund.Collaborative, mission-driven legal environment.Strong professional growth in municipal and public-sector defense.
