Staff Electro-Optical Engineer
Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Staff Electro-Optical Engineer to join the Optical Talent Center. The Optical Talent Center enables new frontiers in visible‑light and infrared systems, missile defense, space exploration and more. The role requires deep knowledge troubleshooting, critical thinking, and strong written and verbal communication. The engineer will collaborate cross‑functionally and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities
Review design requirements
Create block diagrams
Create schematics
Create circuit card assemblies (CCA)
Work with procurement on bill of materials (BOM)
Support manufacturing of CCA
Perform test checkout of CCA by creating test plans and performing board tests
Support program box integration
Support program lifecycle including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PSR, and launch specifically for optical payload or component builds
Support design of Electronic and Special Test Equipment (STE) for laser systems
Develop and refine design standards and processes
Train and mentor junior engineers
Basic Qualifications
Experience designing and/or analyzing circuit card assemblies (CCA) or printed circuit boards (PCB)
Experience with Xpedition, Zuken and/or KiCAD
Familiarity with part selection, layout process, electronics design, high speed signals
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance; US citizenship required
Desired Skills
Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline, or equivalent experience/education
Previous or current technical leadership experience
Demonstrated leadership or willingness to lead
Experience in PCB design, fabrication or assembly
Knowledge of CCA test requirements and processes
Product engineering experience (CPE or equivalent)
Experience with PSPICE, Saber, or other electronics simulation tools
Experience in full life cycle development of hardware (design, integration, test)
Strong problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills
Active TS/SCI with Poly clearance
Security Clearance
This position requires a Top Secret security clearance. A US citizen is required.
