Machine Operator

SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs a variety of machine operating duties that include learning all safety procedures of packaging equipment as well as setup, assembly, monitoring, maintenance and operations of the equipment. Continually adheres to all rules and regulations mandated by safety policies and procedures to produce quality products. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Learn and follow all safety procedures related to the setup and operation of packaging equipment, including lock-out/tag-out procedures. Attend any OJT (on-the-job training) required for each individual type of equipment used as part of your job. This includes meeting the minimum required hours of use for that equipment and being signed off by your trainer and manager. OJT sign off is a must before you are cleared to use the equipment. Assemble equipment required to run a given product. Monitor machine operations to detect product defects and/or machine malfunctions. Test and evaluate product and verify product weight or measurement to ensure quality standards. Check job PPS (Packaging Process Specification) for instructions. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Perform various general maintenance duties, as instructed by supervisor or manager. Safety shoes (toe protection/slip resistant) and PPE must be worn at all times. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace. Bilingual in Spanish or French a plus. Have mechanical aptitude to operate basic hand tools and instruments. Minimum of two years of experience in same or associated field. Good communication skills required. Must be able to interpret/understand documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance instructions. Must have pallet jack experience; forklift certification preferred (training will be provided) Good communication skills are required. Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions. Must be able to work as a creative, flexible, innovative, and effective member of a team. Must be able to work overtime and flexible hours as needed. Must be able to read, write legibly, count accurately, and perform simple math. Must be punctual with good attendance. Must be able to lift to 30 lbs., additional weight with assistance.
