Museum Tour Guide

Position Summary: The Shriver House Museum (owned and operated by Gettysburg History) is seeking an enthusiastic and outgoing team member to lead tours of the 1860 Shriver family home for the 2026 season. Groups may include families, school children, or senior citizens. Every tour is led by docents in period attire. Essential Functions of the Position Include: Conduct guided tours of the Shrivers’ home, providing narrative to visitors based on provided information. Wear civilian attire from the 1860 time based on provided guidelines. Manage time effectively to adhere to scheduled tour times. Communicate clearly to all guests, addressing their inquiries and providing exceptional customer service. Greet guests with enthusiasm, while keeping control of tours at all times. Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with all guests and coworkers. Manage the register/POS system to sell tickets and gift shop merchandise. Restock merchandise and perform light cleaning duties during downtimes and in-between tours. Ability to stand and climb several flights of stairs. Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Leadership Development & Shriver House Museum. Experience: Excellent communication skills, specifically in the form of public speaking. Team player. Ability to memorize and retain information, specifically 30-minute tour script. Ability to speak to groups of all ages. Leadership skills with the ability to manage groups of students & seniors effectively. Excellent time management skills to ensure tours run smoothly and on schedule. Enthusiastic storytelling skills. A passion for educating others and sharing knowledge about the civilians of Gettysburg. Ability to speak to groups of all ages, and adapt a presentation style based on audience engagement levels and interests. Experience with a POS system/cash register helpful, but not required. Ability to learn new software. Terms of Employment: Part-time, with a maximum of 28 hours per week seasonally (March - November). Employees may be asked to work outside of the season as needs arise.
