Shop and Yard Assistant

Wherever there’s pavement, there’s PRS.The Shop and Yard Assistant will assist the shop and parts teams perform a variety of general maintenance duties which include electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and construction in the maintenance and repair of PRS facilities and equipment. Perform Environmental related inspections and document findings for Storm Water, Hazardous Waste and fuel storage programs.Primary ResponsibilitiesInspects buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repairPerforms minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fusesAssists with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system, changing filters, bearingsCompletes maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely mannerIdentifies and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures; open clogged lines and drainsIdentifies and assist with carpentry and repair workOperates a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, router, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses and various hand toolsMaintains inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchasePerforms a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doorsInspects, service, and maintains operational functionality of doors and windowsInstalls or replace plugs, switches, outletsAssists with moving loading, unloading and storing supplies, furniture and equipmentPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsAbility to follow safe work practices and wear all required personal protection equipment for the task (safety glasses/shield, hardhat, safety boots and gloves)Ability to independently lift 50 - 75lbAbility to understand and follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to perform heavy physical labor exposed to weather elements, noise, dust, and temperature extremes (hot/cold), and dirty/greasy environmentAbility to operate computer and/or other related equipmentAbility to apply common sense to carry out instructions and deal with challenges/issuesMust demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established PRS policies and GuidelinesBasic ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instruction on a variety of structures related to the construction projectAbility to absorb and retain formalized trainingCommunicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with employees and the general publicPerform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervisionAbility to perform safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to operate heavy equipment; understanding of methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and electrical work; ability to properly perform basic welding; knowledge of department and PRS policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situationsAbility to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; understanding of building codes, preferably“International Building Code” (IBC).
