With a culture driven by purpose, straightforward communication and clinical domain expertise, Commence cuts straight to better care.RequirementsThe Solution Architect will translate business, functional, and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and compliant solution designs for a CMS case management program. You'll serve as the bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, engineering, data, and infrastructure teams ensuring all solutions align with the program's target architecture, CMS requirements, and strategic objectives. This role works closely with the Cloud Architect, Data Architect, Security Lead, and development teams to drive successful implementation and long-term operational sustainability.Key Responsibilities Develop end-to-end solution architectures aligned with CMS business objectives and technical standardsTranslate business requirements into detailed technical designs, including logical, physical, application, integration, and deployment architecture diagramsDefine solution patterns, standards, and reusable componentsEnsure architectural consistency across multiple workstreamsSupport architecture reviews and technical decision-making processesDesign secure provider, beneficiary, and healthcare data exchange solutions using FHIR, HL7, Direct Messaging, RESTful APIs, and event-driven integration patternsDefine API integration patterns and orchestration workflows; develop integration strategies for external healthcare and CMS systemsDesign provider directory and beneficiary information exchange solutionsDesign cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services, including containerized and serverless application architecturesDefine application deployment architectures and environment strategies; collaborate with Cloud Architects on infrastructure requirements to ensure high availability, scalability, resilience, and performanceWork with Data Architects to define data ingestion patterns, data transformation workflows, data quality controls, metadata management strategies, and lakehouse and medallion architecturesEnsure solution designs support reporting, analytics, and operational data needs; address provider data variability and normalization challengesCollaborate with the Security Lead to embed CMS ARS requirements, HIPAA safeguards, NIST controls, and FedRAMP requirements into all solution designs; support security assessments and compliance reviewsProvide architectural guidance to development teams, review technical designs and code implementations, and identify technical risks with mitigation strategiesMentor engineers and technical team members; support production issue resolution and root cause analysisCreate technical specifications and implementation guidanceQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field8+ years of experience in solution architecture, systems architecture, or enterprise application designExperience supporting large-scale federal or healthcare technology programsExperience designing cloud-native, API-driven solutions using AWS services and CI/CD pipelinesExperience with enterprise application architecture, service-oriented and microservices architecturesExperience with healthcare interoperability standards including FHIR and HL7, and provider and beneficiary data workflowsExperience with data integration, transformation, and governance in healthcare contextsExperience working within Agile development environmentsPreferred Qualifications Experience supporting CMS modernization initiatives or healthcare interoperability solutionsExperience with provider directory and healthcare exchange systemsExperience supporting data lake, lakehouse, or medallion architecture initiativesExperience with cloud migration and modernization programsFamiliarity with healthcare APIs and secure data-sharing frameworksAWS Certified Solutions Architect – ProfessionalAWS Certified Solutions Architect – AssociateCommence' headquarters are in Virgina Beach, VA, however we are open to remote candidates in the following states: AZ, AR, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MS, MO, MT, NC, NE, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, DC, WI, and WV*Work Environment/Physical DemandsThe work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
