Position SummaryThe Civil Construction Inspector will be responsible for observing, inspecting, and documenting construction activities for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable regulations. This role serves as a key liaison between contractors, engineers, and municipal clients during construction.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect construction activities for municipal water and wastewater projects, including:Water distribution and transmission mainsSanitary sewer and force mainsPump stations, lift stations, and related appurtenancesManholes, valves, hydrants, services, and testing proceduresVerify construction work complies with approved plans, specifications, codes, and contract documentsObserve and document materials testing, pressure testing, leakage testing, disinfection, and commissioning activitiesMaintain accurate daily inspection reports, pay quantity documentation, and photo recordsCoordinate with contractors, project engineers, and municipal representatives to address field issues and resolve discrepanciesIdentify potential constructability or quality concerns and communicate findings promptly to the project teamMonitor construction schedules and report progress and delaysAssist with preparation of pay applications, change documentation, and project closeout materialsPromote jobsite safety and report unsafe conditionsRequired QualificationsMinimum 3–5 years of construction inspection experience, with a strong focus on water and wastewater projectsWorking knowledge of:Municipal water and wastewater construction standardsTrenching, shoring, dewatering, and utility installation practicesTesting and inspection procedures for water and sewer systemsAbility to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and shop drawingsProficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection/reporting toolsValid driver's license and ability to travel to project sitesPreferred CertificationsNICET Certification (Level II or higher preferred)ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade I)State DOT or municipal construction inspection certificationsOSHA 10 or OSHA 30Skills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and documentation accuracyEffective communication skills with contractors, engineers, and clientsAbility to work independently in the field while collaborating with a project teamProfessional judgment in identifying issues and recommending solutionsFamiliarity with municipal project environments and public works standardsWorking ConditionsPrimarily field-based with exposure to outdoor weather conditions and active construction sitesAbility to stand, walk, and traverse uneven terrain for extended periodsOccasional evening or early morning hours to support construction schedulesBenefitsCompetitive salary and performance-based bonuses100% company paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Long-Term Disability insurance for employees, plus company deductible assistance401(k) with 4% company matchGenerous PTO plan and 7 major holidaysContinuing education and professional development support
