Shop Foreman/Lead Technician

Position: Diesel Mechanic – Shop Foreman/Lead Technician - Lafayette, IN This position is Monday through Friday 7:00am - 5:00pm and every other Saturday Position will pay $30-$35 per hour depending upon experience Company Description: McLeod Express has been family-owned and operated for over 30 years. Position Summary: Working foreman will oversee and assist with all truck tractor maintenance functions, including, but not limited to maintenance, repairs, and installs to tractors and trailers at our Lafayette, IN terminal. Provide leadership for a team of 1-2 diesel technicians and work closely with shop supervisors at other locations to ensure a safe and compliant fleet. Job Responsibilities: Supervise and assign work to a team of shop techs while working side-by-side with the team Direct and perform all preventive maintenance on tractors/trailers Maintain truck/trailer compliance with regulatory requirement and Company policies Manage and complete all repairs to tractors/trailers Diagnose and repair all wiring/electrical problems on tractors/trailers Install and perform any required maintenance on Qual-Com tracking units in tractors Diagnose and perform maintenance repairs to APU’s Responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the shop, including ensuring all proper PPE is worn at all times Effectively and professionally communicate with customers and vendors regarding truck/trailer maintenance, repairs, pickups, etc Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested Job Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education, Skills and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) A minimum of three (3) years related experience in diesel mechanics and trailer maintenance A degree or certification in Diesel Mechanics is preferred Must demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks Ability to train, supervise and discipline a team of technicians Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization The following skills are also required: Computer skills Communication skills Organizational skills Strong Problem-Solving skills Physical Requirements: Ability to operate a variety of equipment to provide hands-on maintenance functions Frequent kneeling, bending, climbing as needed to maintenance of vehicles and equipment Ability to work with heights and in varying environments, including hot, cold, dusty and in the presence of exhaust fumes, etc. Ability to travel between indoor and outdoor settings Ability to wear proper safety gear/PPE as needed Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of over 100lbs Job Type: Full-time Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40 per week Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee discount Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Schedule: Monday to Friday Weekends as needed Education: High school or equivalent (Required) Experience: Diesel Engine, Truck & Heavy Equipment Mechanics: 1 year (Preferred) Diesel engine repair: 1 year (Preferred) Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred) License/Certification: Diesel Mechanic Certification (Preferred) Ability to Relocate: Lafayette, IN 47905: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
