Radical Healing is an intentional, radically inclusive LGBTQ+ and BIPOC centered wellness campus providing comprehensive, culturally responsive healthcare services in Durham, NC. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant to join our diverse team of healthcare professionals dedicated to creating affirming medical experiences for all patients.
About the Role
As a Medical Assistant at Radical Healing, you will play a vital role in our patient-centered approach to care, with a particular focus on serving LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. You'll work collaboratively with our medical providers to ensure patients receive high-quality, affirming healthcare in a safe and welcoming environment. This position is part-time with the potential to transition to full-time based on organizational needs and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support
Perform comprehensive patient intake, including vital signs, medical history, and documentation
Conduct phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection with attention to patient comfort
Prepare examination rooms, sterilize instruments, and ensure proper equipment setup
Assist medical providers during examinations and procedures
Administer medications and injections as directed by physicians (including hormone therapy)
Perform basic diagnostic tests and point-of-care testing
Patient Care & Advocacy
Create a welcoming, affirming environment for all patients, particularly those from marginalized communities
Demonstrate cultural humility and sensitivity in all patient interactions
Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and self-care practices
Serve as a patient advocate and communication liaison between patients and providers
Support patients navigating healthcare barriers through resource connection
Administrative Functions
Maintain accurate electronic medical records and ensure proper documentation
Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with external providers
Manage appointment scheduling and patient flow
Keep inventory of medical supplies and coordinate ordering as needed
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and safety protocols

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA)
Current BLS/CPR certification
Demonstrated phlebotomy skills and experience
1+ years of experience in a clinical healthcare setting
Proficiency with electronic medical records systems
Strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC communities
Knowledge of gender-affirming care practices and protocols
Familiarity with trauma-informed care approaches
Experience in primary care, sexual health, or mental health settings
Bilingual skills (especially Spanish/English)
Experience with mental health support and crisis intervention

Work Schedule & Compensation
Full-time position (32-40 hours/week)
Potential to transition to full-time based on organizational needs and performance
Flexible scheduling between Monday to Friday with occasional evening hours
Weekend availability may be required on a rotating basis
Competitive hourly wage: $20.00 - $23.00 based on experience
