Art Teacher 26-27 Department: Instructional Staff Employment Type: Full Time Location: Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences Reporting To: Principal Compensation: $51,300 - $83,700 / year Description Position Title: Art Teacher Funding Source: General Fund Reports to: This position reports to and is evaluated by the School Principal Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related fieldValid Michigan Teaching Certification with Endorsement for desired content area.LQ: Visual Arts Education LX: Fine Arts LZ: Visual Arts SpecialistPrevious experience teaching elementary school students strongly preferred. Position Description: The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality visual arts instruction that inspires creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression in students. The teacher will create engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences that develop students' artistic skills while integrating the mission of Detroit Academy of Arts & Sciences to provide a well-rounded education in the arts and sciences. The Art Teacher fosters a positive and inclusive classroom culture, collaborates with colleagues and families, and supports students in developing confidence, creativity, and appreciation for diverse artistic traditions and cultures. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, Common Core, and state standards.Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, respectful behavior, and a sense of community among students.Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring each student's unique needs are met.Regularly assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians.Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the school's positive and collaborative culture.Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians through regular updates, conferences, and involvement in school events.Stay informed about current educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and continuously seek ways to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.Actively participate in the Teaching and Learning Cycle which requires analyzing data, completing action plans, delivering re-teach lessons and reflecting on the instructional learning cycle;Participate in the development of and adhere to all specialized student plans i.e. Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), 504, Behavior Plans, etc.Contribute to a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability;Adhere to the District's and School's policies, expectations, and protocols as outlined in the District's Policies and Procedures Manual and School's Procedures Manual.Other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseStrong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategiesPassion for integrating arts into the curriculum and promoting creativity in the classroomExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExcellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google SuiteCommitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all studentsAbility to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and contribute to a positive school culture Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Terms of Employment: Salary & benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for certified teachers starts at $51,300. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
