Position OverviewUnder general supervision of the STRIDES Barn Manager, provides support to the program and the barn manager. This involves teaching riding lessons, assisting with barn chores, running events such as birthday parties and petting zoo, and working with individuals with disabilities to enjoy the barn and services.Salary: $20.00Location: STRIDES, ManhattanHours: Sunday and one weekday, 9 am-5 pmREPORTS TO: Barn ManagerNETWORK OR DEPARTMENT: Network 6Essential FunctionsTeaching riding lessons and educational horsemanship classes, running camps, hosting birthday parties and events, assisting with photo shoots.Responsible for taking the lead running camps, birthday parties, petting zoo, and special events.Assists in training individuals, program participants, volunteers, visitors, and new staff.Is responsible, as designated by the Barn Manager, for the care of the horses and program equipment.Completes lesson progress reports and tracking along with other necessary forms and documents.Responsible for occasionally assisting with manual labor such as moving hay bales, filling grain bins, cleaning stalls, carrying water buckets, etc as needed.Identifies animal illnesses and injuries and responds accordingly.Share responsibility for caring for sick horses.Assist with training rides and groundwork for horses.Help cover shifts for call offs as necessary.Assist with barn, fence, stall, and pasture maintenance as needed.Responsible for overall health and condition of the animals on the farm, ensuring they are given quality care.Assists with volunteer coordination, including scheduling and tasks.Performs other duties as assigned by Barn Manager.Skills And AbilitiesBe able to administer IV and IM shots and perform equine first aid.Be able to identify illness and injuries and treat accordingly.Experience teaching intermediate riding lessonsPhysical Demandsbalancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, pushing wheelchairs, and lifting up to 50 pounds.QualificationsBachelors Degree preferredBenefitsHealth, Vision, Dental, and Life insuranceEducational AssistancePaid time offSick timePaid HolidaysPersonal TimePotential Year-End BonusFinancial Assistance Program (Cookie Jar)Employee Referral Program (Bounty Bucks)ClassificationNon-ExemptDisclaimerDuties and responsibilities may change, and new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
