SHERMAN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICEEMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY OPENING DATE: January 12, 2024 CLOSING DATE: Until Filled JOB TITLE: Deputy Sheriff OFFICE: Sheriff CERTIFIED PREFERRED SALARY RANGE: Starting Salary: $6258 to $7074 per month Intermediate Certification+ 3% Advanced Certification + 3% Supervisory Certification + 3% WORK SCHEDULE: Varied TOTAL HOURS PER WEEK: 40RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Deputies are required to live within Sherman County. A timeline to find a residence can be negotiated. [SUBJECT TO CALL OUT ON DAYS OFF AND AFTER SHIFT WORKEDAS NECESSARY] IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR AND TITLE: Sergeant JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs law enforcement work as necessary to maintain public peace and order, to protect life and property, to prevent crime, to make investigations and to apprehend violators of the law. Duties include, but are not limited to, criminal investigations and responding to complaints, crime prevention, traffic law enforcement, marine patrol and accident investigation, as well as public relations. Acts as responsible representative of the Sheriff. Performs other related and assigned work. Potential advancement to Detective position depending on experience. JOB REQUIREMENTS:- High School Diploma or GED- Preferred one (1) year of experience in law enforcement OR graduation from a two-year college. with major course work in law enforcement OR any satisfactory combination of education and experience.- Knowledge of crime prevention, criminal investigation and traffic law enforcement.- Skill in typing, report writing, filing and communications.- Skill in administering first aid and CPR.- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.- Ability to perform work without direct supervision.- Ability to comprehend and interpret laws, rules, regulations and directives.- Ability to exercise mature judgment and react effectively in emergency situations.- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.- Ability to work variable work shifts.- Successfully pass a written POST Test- Subject to call out on days off or being called out after your regularly schedule work shift.- Subject to working holidays as needed.- Ability to meet minimum DPSST requirements and possess certification within one year from date of employment.
