Medical Laboratory Technician
Overview
North Runnels Hospital District is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to support high‑quality patient care in a clinical hospital laboratory environment. This position performs routine and specialized laboratory testing across all age groups while ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with hospital, CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA standards. The Medical Laboratory Technician works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director or Lead Technologist and plays a key role in delivering timely, dependable diagnostic results.
Responsibilities
Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and other approved specimen collection procedures following safety and infection control protocols
Conduct chemical, hematology, coagulation, and biological testing using automated and manual methods
Operate, maintain, and perform quality control on laboratory instrumentation
Recognize abnormal or critical values and report findings appropriately
Perform manual testing, including cell differentials and urine microscopic examinations
Complete proficiency testing and participate in quality management activities
Prepare and package specimens for transport to reference laboratories
Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and patient records while ensuring confidentiality
Follow OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen standards and hospital safety policies
Maintain a clean, organized, and well‑stocked work area
Adjust priorities to meet workload demands, STAT orders, and emergency situations
Interact with patients, providers, and staff in a professional, courteous manner
Experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or equivalent
Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technician program with clinical rotations in all laboratory departments
One year of clinical laboratory experience preferred but not required
Certification or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized agency preferred
Working knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, quality control, and safety standards
Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to work independently
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and commitment to continuous learning
