Master Electrician

Primary Purpose Supervise and lead the Electrical team and all power distribution and lighting operations for the District Maintenance Department. Responsibilities include scheduling, assessment, repair, replacement, and optimization of electrical systems and infrastructure districtwide. Oversee and manage the Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and Lighting Control Systems to ensure energy efficiency and operational safety. Maintain facilities in excellent operating condition to support uninterrupted educational use and provide a safe, code-compliant, functional, and attractive environment. Provide leadership, technical training, and support to Electrical staff while coordinating power requirements and lighting schedules for campus and district-level events in alignment with district goals Minimum Qualifications Education/Certification High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).Valid Master Electrician license.Clear and valid Texas driver's license.Satisfactory outcome of a fingerprinting background check (non-refundable fee of approximately $50.00 to be paid by the employee). Experience/Knowledge/Skills Experience working in a public school environment or a large-scale institutional setting.Expert knowledge of electrical circuits, power distribution, wiring, and the operating principles of motors and controllers.Comprehensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), local ordinances, and NFPA 70E safety standards. Advanced ability to interpret and analyze blueprints, complex electrical schematics, and technical reference materials. Ability to communicate, follow, and issue complex written and verbal instructions.Ability to perform precise mathematical calculations related to electrical load, circuitry, and demand.Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex electrical system failures and infrastructure issues. Mastery in the safe operation and maintenance of specialized electrical hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic testing equipment. Organization Improvement The electrician promotes efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following: Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities.Inspect building exterior and interior, doors, locks and hardwareDetect and report needed major repairs on building locks and hardware, including lockers, furniture, and equipmentInstall and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, control and distribution apparatus, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment and test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components.Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.Measure, assemble, and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.Detected needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, and dryers.Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Select material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.Work with building principals and supervisors to schedule and complete projects.Respond to emergency calls as needed.SafetyFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
