UNIX/LINUX System Engineer - Senior

Job DescriptionECS is seeking a Senior UNIX/Linux System Engineer to manage and modernize the SEC's Linux server infrastructure while playing a critical role in enabling the agency's AI and automation initiatives. Linux is the foundation for the vast majority of modern cloud, containerization, and AI/ML platforms, and this role is central to building and maintaining the systems that will power the SEC's next-generation capabilities.Location: Washington, DC – Hybrid office. This position is contingent upon contract award.ResponsibilitiesBeyond traditional Linux administration, this role requires an engineer who can automate everything—server provisioning, configuration management, patching, compliance scanning, and incident remediation. You will implement infrastructure-as-code for the Linux estate, build CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes, and support the deployment of containerized workloads and AI/ML platforms that run on Linux. If you believe in the principle that if you have to do it twice, you should automate it, this role is for you.Required Skills8+ years of experience administrating and managing enterprise Linux/UNIX systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred)Expert-level automation skills—Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt for configuration management at scale (100+ servers)Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, and/or Go for infrastructure automationExperience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes/OpenShift) on Linux platformsKnowledge of CI/CD pipeline development for infrastructure changes (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)Experience with Linux security hardening, DISA STIG compliance, and automated compliance scanning (OpenSCAP, Nessus)Strong knowledge of Linux networking, storage (LVM, SAN/NAS), and performance tuningRed Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification or equivalentActive Secret clearance or ability to obtain; U.S. citizenship requiredBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
