The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.Your role: FMI is seeking a dependable, skilled Engineering Technician to join the Research & Technology team. In this role you will support experimental trials, prepare and process composite preforms, operate high-temperature equipment, conduct mechanical/thermal experimental trials to process and or evaluate materials. You will also collaborate with engineers and scientists to help refine manufacturing techniques, troubleshoot processes, support low volume manufacturing and document results to advance the development of next-generation aerospace and defense materials/components.Job ResponsibilitiesSupport engineering initiatives, development processes and manufacturing operationsMaintain process records, lab books, operate recording equipment, etcCreate basic process documentation, work instructions and travelersPrepare equipment for operation and perform post process servicingParticipate in root cause analysis investigations as part of a teamWork with maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment issuesImplement equipment and process improvementsOperate with an uncompromising safety-first attitudeWhat We Need From YouHigh School Diploma or GED2+ years of work in a manufacturing environment or equivalent technical / vocational trainingAbility to use basic hand tools and measurement equipmentStrong communication and problem-solving skillsAbility to write basic process procedures or instructionsBasic computer skills; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft OutlookHigh level of mechanical aptitudeStrong work ethicGood attention to detailWorks well individually and as a member of a teamWork experience in a research environmentPreferredAssociate degree in trade / industrial / engineering discipline, demonstrated progress toward a technical degree or equivalent military experienceFamiliarity with fiber reinforced composite materials and associated manufacturing processesFamiliarity with high temperature processing equipment
