Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as facility policies, is a condition of employment. Essential functions include assessing data regarding the patient's physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs based upon the patient's age and development. Reports and documents all observed symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient's condition. Utilizes the nursing process to direct and deliver patient care. Develops, implements, revises, and evaluates a formal plan of care. Administers medications using the "Five Rights of Medication Administration." Provides and instructs patients and/or their families with educational information appropriate for age and learning abilities. Creates and maintains a comfortable and safe environment for patients, families, and visitors. Organizes and prioritizes daily assignments to provide optimal patient care. Demonstrates competency annually in assigned areas of work. Maintains patient and employee confidentiality at all times. Complies with the Code of Conduct. For those serving in Charge Nurse capacity, responsibilities include assigning licensed and non-licensed staff to care for patients according to patient needs and skill level of available staff. Coaching staff to develop and demonstrate appropriate problem-solving behaviors and teaching methods to improve decision-making skills. Identifying opportunities to improve performance and leading and/or participating in performance improvement teams. Recognizing life-threatening patient complications/situations, and responding immediately by initiating and participating in emergency procedures. Working at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff. Physical demands describe requirements that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment characteristics that employees encounter while performing essential functions may include working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee may occasionally work with explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The level of risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens is Classification (I), as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
