DescriptionThe UM Police Department invites applications for a Police Officer to perform a variety of quality law enforcement duties. This position is an identified Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined in the federal Jeanne Clery Act.Examples of Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatrol campus and campus related facilities to enforce all University regulation, Federal and state lawsInvestigate criminal activity and accidentsRespond to and investigating in resident halls or family housing disturbances.Provide safety and security by unlocking doors, inspecting campus facilities for safety, health and fire hazardsProvide crime prevention functions to the University community by providing money escorts, person escorts in the hours of darkness and giving crime prevention presentationsMinimum QualificationsBe Montana POST certified or Montana POST certifiableKnowledge of basic law enforcement practices, State and Federal laws as well as University policies and proceduresPossess excellent interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrate good oral and written communication skillsDemonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skillsReport writing skills and observation skillsAbility to remain calm and impartial during difficult situationsKnowledge of basic first aidAbility to identify safety hazards, security violations and knowledge of campus facilitiesKnowledge of fire and safety regulations and policiesAbility to operate specialized police patrol equipment and alarmsBasic knowledge of Uniform traffic code, Montana LawsAbility to work rotating work hours which include nights, weekends and holidaysPreferred QualificationsLaw Enforcement experience working with a diverse population on an institution of higher learningKnowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act and requirements of the Clery Act in Campus Law EnforcementKnowledge of Title IX requirements on universities and their connections with Campus Law EnforcementAdditional InformationPosition Number: 082100Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPEWork Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Cycle between day and nights 8-12 hours, 12months/yearProbationary Period: One (1) year minimumBenefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.Screening of applications will begin after the closing date; however, applications will continue to be accepted until an adequate applicant pool has been established.A Complete Application IncludesLetter of Interest – addressing your qualifications and experience related to the stated required skills for the position.
